What can I do for you?
My goal as a myofunctional therapist is to spot orofacial disorders and create specialized plans tailored to each person's specific needs to restore proper function. I will also help coordinate your care with other health professionals as needed.
What is myofunctional therapy?
~Myofunctional therapy is a program used to correct improper function of the face and tongue. It utilizes exercises to strengthen the tongue and orofacial muscles to promote appropriate movements and rest positions.
What are the 4 goals of therapy?
~The goals of therapy are nasal breathing, lip seal, proper tongue posture, and correct swallowing pattern.
How to be successful in therapy?
~The muscles of the face and mouth are designed to work together in a collaborative effort. By noticing disfunction early, you can help a child or adult overcome the hurdles that prevent them from using their mouths properly.
~To be successful, consistent daily exercises are necessary until the patient has eliminated the improper muscle pattern. Therapy is a commitment by the patient and the patient's family. Treatment typically consists of 12 sessions but may vary depending on individual needs. Sessions are usually once every 2 weeks with a new set of exercises given as the patient progresses.
Please call with any questions! I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals!
